Retotaling means NEB re-adds your marks to check if there was a calculation error in your answer sheet.

The examiner who checked your paper may have correctly evaluated each answer but made an addition mistake at the end. Retotaling catches that. It does not re-evaluate whether your answers were marked correctly. Only the totaling of marks already given is checked and corrected if wrong.

Retotaling costs NPR 500 per subject. It is the first step in the rechecking process. You cannot skip it. Retotaling carries zero risk of your marks going down because it only catches undercounted marks and corrects addition errors. Your marks can only increase or stay the same after retotaling.

What Is Rechecking in Class 12 NEB?

Rechecking means a completely different examiner reviews your entire answer sheet from scratch. Every answer you wrote is evaluated again by a new person.

Rechecking goes deeper than retotaling. It looks at whether your answers were correctly evaluated in the first place, not just whether the marks were added correctly. Marks can increase, stay the same, or in rare cases decrease after rechecking.

Steps:

• Mark subjects for retotaling with a tick
• Pay NPR 500 per subject through digital wallet
• Save confirmation message

Visit neb.gov.np and go to Online Payment (Retotaling) or visit payment.neb.gov.np/studentportal. Enter your symbol number and date of birth. Mark the subjects for which you want retotaling with a tick. Make the payment using a digital wallet. Save the received confirmation message. Check the website for results.

After the main class 12 result is published, open your browser and go to payment.neb.gov.np/studentportal. Enter your symbol number exactly as printed on your admit card and your date of birth in YYYY/MM/DD Bikram Sambat format.

After your details are verified, your subjects will appear on screen. Select only the subjects where you feel marks may have been incorrectly totaled. You do not need to apply for every subject. Apply only for the ones that feel genuinely lower than expected.

Proceed to payment. You can pay through eSewa, Khalti, IME Pay, Connect IPS, or other integrated gateways. The fee is NPR 500 per subject. The payment is non-refundable regardless of whether your marks change.

After payment, you receive a confirmation message. Screenshot it or write down the confirmation number. Keep it safe until your final result is confirmed.

How to Check Class 12 Retotaling Result 2083

NEB publishes retotaling results as downloadable PDF notices on neb.gov.np and updates the gradesheet database on neb.ntc.net.np after processing.

Method 1. PDF notice on neb.gov.np

Steps:

• Go to neb.gov.np
• Find retotaling result notice in Highlights or Notices section
• Download the PDF
• Press Ctrl F and search your symbol number
• If your symbol appears your grade changed
• If not your grade is unchanged

Go to neb.gov.np after Shrawan 25, 2083. Look in the Highlights or Notices section for a PDF link that says Class 12 Retotaling Result 2083. Download it and press Ctrl F on your keyboard to open search. Type your exact symbol number. If it appears, the PDF will show which subject changed and what the new grade is. If it does not appear, your grade is confirmed unchanged.

NEB only lists students whose grades changed. If you are not in any phase PDF, your original grade stands.

Method 2. Updated gradesheet on neb.ntc.net.np

• Enter symbol number and date of birth in YYYY/MM/DD BS format
• Click submit
• Check if your grade updated

After NEB updates the database, your changed grade appears on neb.ntc.net.np. Enter your symbol number and date of birth the same way you checked your main result. If retotaling changed your grade, the updated grade shows in the gradesheet.

The NTC portal may take 24 to 48 hours to update after the NEB PDF notice is published. If you see your symbol in the PDF but NTC still shows old grade, wait one to two days and check again.

Method 3. SMS to 1600

Steps:

• Type NEB space your symbol number
• Send to 1600 on NTC
• Updated result arrives as reply

After the NTC database updates, SMS to 1600 also reflects the updated grades from retotaling.

Method 4. IVR and USSD

Dial 1601 for IVR and follow voice instructions. Or dial *1600# for USSD on NTC and follow the on-screen menu. Both methods show updated grades after the database is updated.

Contact your college with the updated digital gradesheet and your retotaling or rechecking confirmation receipt. NEB issues updated physical marksheets starting 10 days after the retotaling or rechecking result is published. Your college will guide you through collecting the updated printed marksheet.

If your grade changed from NG to a passing grade, contact bachelor level colleges immediately for late admission. Most colleges have a late admission window specifically for students who clear NG through retotaling or rechecking. If rechecking does not change your grade, the decision is final. There is no further appeal process after rechecking. NEB’s rechecking outcome is the last official review available for that subject.

At this point your realistic options are the class 12 grade increment exam if you have NG in the subject, or repeating as a partial student in the next year’s class 12 exam for subjects you still have NG in.

For class 12 2081, retotaling results came in two phases on August 15, 2024 and August 28, 2024.

Common Mistakes to Avoid

Missing the retotaling deadline is the most costly mistake. Once Shrawan 25, 2083 passes, the window closes permanently. No extensions are given.

Applying for rechecking without doing retotaling first is not allowed. Follow the sequence strictly.

Entering wrong date of birth format when checking result. Always use Bikram Sambat YYYY/MM/DD format on neb.ntc.net.np.

Assuming no symbol in retotaling PDF means technical error. It means your grade did not change. Check again in subsequent phase PDFs before concluding your grade is final.
