For example if your grades are English A which is 3.6, Mathematics B plus which is 3.2, Physics A plus which is 4.0, Chemistry B which is 2.8, and Computer Science A which is 3.6, write down each grade point.

Step two is to add all the grade points together. Using the example above, 3.6 plus 3.2 plus 4.0 plus 2.8 plus 3.6 equals 17.2.

Step three is to divide the total by the number of subjects. You have 5 subjects so 17.2 divided by 5 equals 3.44. Your GPA is 3.44.

This formula works the same way for SEE, Class 11, and Class 12 results. GPA equals total grade points divided by total number of subjects.

How Theory and Practical Marks Affect Your GPA

This is one of the most common points of confusion for students calculating manually.

The final grade is calculated based on weighted average of theory and practical components. For most subjects the split is 75 percent theory and 25 percent practical. For Computer Science the split is 50 percent theory and 50 percent practical.

What this means in practice is that your final subject grade already accounts for both theory and practical marks before it appears on your marksheet. When you see A grade on your marksheet for Physics, that grade already includes your practical performance.

How to Calculate NEB GPA for SEE Students

SEE students use exactly the same formula. GPA equals total grade points divided by total number of subjects.

SEE students typically have 8 subjects including compulsory Nepali, compulsory English, compulsory Mathematics, Science and Technology, Social Studies and Human Values and Civics, Health Physical Education and Population, one optional subject, and sometimes a second optional. The exact subject list depends on your school.

Add the grade points from all your subjects and divide by the total number. The result is your SEE GPA.

How to Calculate NEB GPA for Class 12 Students

Class 12 GPA calculation works the same way but the subjects and credit hours become more important.

Theory marks come from your final written exams, usually out of 75. Internal marks come from class tests and assignments, out of 25. Some subjects are more important than others. These are called credit hours. The more credit hours, the more the subject affects your GPA.

For Class 12 Science students, subjects include Physics, Chemistry, Biology or Mathematics, English, and Nepali. For Management students, subjects include Accountancy, Economics, Business Studies, English, and Nepali. What Happens If You Get NG in a Subject?

NG means Not Graded. It carries a grade point of 0.0. If you get NG in any subject, that 0.0 is included in your GPA calculation and significantly brings your overall GPA down.

For SEE students, getting NG in one or two subjects means you can appear for the SEE Grade Increment Exam. The grade increment exam for 2082 is confirmed for Asar 1 to 9, 2083 (June 15 to 23, 2026). After clearing the subject, your marksheet is updated with the new grade and your GPA is recalculated using the new grade point.

For Class 11 and 12 students, NG follows similar rules. NEB allows re-examination or grade improvement as per the official notice published each year after results.

Common Mistakes to Avoid When Calculating NEB GPA
